Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED)

March 2007

The organization was instrumental in the passage of the Assets for Independence Act in 1998 and continues to focus on the creation of other federal asset building policies, such as the Savings for Working Families Act. CFED also provides assistance for advocates at the state level by providing the Assets and Opportunity Scorecard and co-authoring the IDA State Policy Guide with the Center for Social Development.

CFED?s main focus, however, is on building the IDA field, managing demonstration projects across the country and providing technical assistance to these programs. Through its American Dream Demonstration (ADD) demonstration, 2,000 IDA accounts have been established at thirteen sites around the country. A new demonstration project, Savings for Education, Entrepreneurship, and Downpayment (SEED), will establish accounts for children who can then use these savings towards an approved asset building use once they reach adulthood. To help practitioners in these demonstrations and other programs around the country, CFED has developed a web-based ?IDA Network,? which provides resources and networking opportunities for asset building organizations and advocates.
